Project Overview:

In 2008, Brent Mareck, Winsted City Administrator, asked Millerbernd Lighting for a proposal to design, manufacture and install four energy-efficient, low maintenance and long-lasting lighted city entrance signs. To meet these requirements and win city council approval, Millerbernd Lighting designed and presented a custom solution to build four 8’ by 10’ LED backlighted stainless signs. The proposal was accepted, signs built, and installed in less than 4 months. Brent Mareck explains “Millerbernd Lighting’s signs have enhanced our city while providing savings of up to 45% on ongoing maintenance—that is a welcome for our tax payers as well as our visitors.”

Project Solution:

Millerbernd Lighting delivered to the city council a detailed proposal drawing and a signage solution using LED lighting and stainless steel construction. As a one-stop signage solution, the posts and frames were cut at the Millerbernd Laser Center and the signs assembled and tested at Millerbernd’s Lighting Center. Both located in Millerbernd’s 120,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility.

Project Result:

By day, the signs welcome visitors with their unique shape, bright colors, and stainless steel structural support. By night, the signs are illuminated by a custom LED lighting system. Being very energy efficient with no wasted light or heat, this SSL solution is 90% more energy efficient than traditional lighted signs. Their solid-state construction also provides for greater resistance to shock, vibration, and wear—significantly increasing their lifespan.
